February 2016 – Raid Report

Raid Report 2-28-16

We had 36 shooters join us for another picture perfect day on the range.  Blue skies, low humidity, no bugs, good friends.
A few highlights:  Biscuit Shooter Jake shot his first match ever.  It was good to see Zack McGee, J.P. Law, Black Eyed Susie, and Silver Buck Chuck back on the range.  I’m proud of Ennah Tizzy and Tornado Timmy who both shot clean.  We learned Tin Star John has an extensive library of songs in his head.  With no warning he was able to croon “What’s Goin’ On?” by Marvin Gaye, belt out “Memories” from Cats, and channel Sinatra and Elvis on “My Way.”  Also, Chicken Scratch’s balance is off without his 7.5 inch revolvers.
Congratulations to Santa Fe River Stan and Hawkeye Gin for Top Gun and Top Lady of the day.
Thanks to Wabash Valley Slim and Big Country for doing the scores for the match.
Please note there will be no Raiders match on March 27th which falls on Easter Sunday.
Hope to see everyone at The Ides of March!

January 2016 – Raid Report

Raid Report 1-24-16

I mentioned this in the shooter’s meeting: “We must remember a COOL day on the Gainesville range.”  And we had one.  There was frost on the tables!  But, the sun was out, the wind was light, and it warmed up into a wonderful day.

29 shooters shot the match. We had High Springer who shot his first match ever.  We had Keller Hollow Kid all the way from Pennsylvania.  We had Shamrock Sadie and Knot Hardly Dunn from South Carolina.  High Springs Drifter and Miss Patty back from up north.  And Dead Lakes Walker shot for the first time in a good while.

A tip of the hat to Deadeye Duvall who showed marked improvement in his shooting.  Keep it up!

Congratulations to Santa Fe River Stan and Shamrock Sadie for Top Gun and Top Lady respectively.

I think the “uncommon sweeps” were pretty popular and definitely something fresh.  My nostalgic favorite was the Cowford Sweep which took me back to my early days of cowboy shooting.  My current favorite was naturally the Raider Sweep, 22 knockdowns including the moving Polish Plate Rack!

Many thanks to all who helped set up and tear down.  Special thanks to Lefty Lucy for her help in lunch setup with Gin and Sage Siren.

Next up will be The Reckoning, Orlando’s annual match on February 6th.  Hope to see many of you there.

See you on the trail,

Delta Glen

December 2015 – Raid Report

Raid Report 12-27-15

We had a great turnout for our December match, 36 shooters!  Sunday was a warm, almost hot December day, but the range was dry and there was a nice breeze.  I have to remind myself that people all over the country revel in a late December day like that.

Special thanks to Wabash Valley Slim, Big Country, and Beck A. Boo who stepped up to handle sign-in, scoring, and match preparations.  Once again, cowboys and cowgirls prove to be the best kind of folks.

Congratulations to Arcadia Outlaw and Beck A. Boo for Top Gun and Top Lady.

Next up is The Siege at St. Augustine.  I hope to see everyone there.

Happy New Year to all,

November 2015 – Raid Report

Raid Report 11-22-15

The first November match in Raiders history was a memorable one.  Remember last year we cancelled the match because of predicted rain, but on that Sunday it never rained.  So this year we were determined to set up and shoot the match.  Chance of rain ranged from 60-100% as this morning approached.  And even though it did rain through the early hours, it finally stopped and 30 dedicated shooters stayed and shot the match!

To spice up the weekend those shooters who shot both the Lake Co. Pistoleros match and the Raiders match were recognized as Iron Cowboys.  We had 10 cowboys that did both!

We have a correction to the scores also, 2 misses were not recorded on my score which moved Christian Mortician up to 2nd overall.

Thanks to the setup crew yesterday: Rod, Gin, BRK, Sage Siren, Ray, and John who did all the hard work while Major Mishap and I were shooting down in Eustis.  Thanks also to all who helped tear down and put away everything in record time.

Adam’s Rib barbecue was excellent for lunch today and I doubt anyone went home less than stuffed.

Congratulations to Santa Fe River Stan for Top Overall and Hawkeye Gin for Top Lady.

Hope to see you all for our next match on December 27.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

October 2015 – Raid Report

Raid Report 10-25-15

First, a reminder that November’s match is on the 22nd, the day after Lake Co. Pistoleros.  3rd Saturday and 4th Sunday-same weekend…We’re lucky that our match falls the weekend before Thanksgiving.

October’s match was quite pleasant with the temperatures and humidity noticeably lower.  Plus, the range was dry!

The theme was Gin’s revenge and the stages were designed to be lefty friendly.  There was a nice mix of speed and movement along with our usual knockdown challenges.

Congratulations to Roughneck Rod for Top Gun!  And thanks to all who helped set up and tear down.

Rooster Ray found homes for some abandoned kittens with Sage Siren and Hawkeye Gin taking “Cassie” and Gin’s spectator friends Bailey and Morgan taking “Fetty”.

I hope to see many of you at the SE Regional next weekend!

Until then,

Delta Glen

September 2015 – Raid Report

Raid Report 9-27-15

We had overcast skies and no rain on Sunday. It had rained the night before so the dry range we left Saturday evening was a bit muddy. But, the footing was good and we were able to shoot the match at full throttle.

We had lots of knockdowns, a rifle reload, longer shots and close shots.

Roughneck Rod was back on the range and shot a 24 rd stage in 12.82 seconds, clean! Holy cow.

Congratulations to Wabash Valley Slim for Top Gun and thanks to him for trimming the grass so we could find our brass.

See you all on the trail,

Delta Glen
