August 2015 – Raid Report

Raid Report 8-23-15

Our August match proved to be a hot one! Shooting in the heat was bearable, but stacking the steel and tables in the truck and Conex was the real treat. I also had a close encounter with a water moccasin early in the morning…geez those things are creepy. Welcome to Florida!

Many thanks to Gainesville Target Range who along with the Raiders and shooters’ donations raised $600.00 for help in Roughneck Rod’s fire recovery. We were certainly glad to see him on his feet when he stopped by the range for a little bit.

All the starting lines were “Rodisms”: “Yaknowwhatahmean?” Shoulda Dun Gun managed to use several in one stage. Something like, “I’m gonna shoot wicked fast-not like some retahded, powdah-puff, wimp!” Oh well, ” Whattaya gonna do?”

Wabash Valley Slim was the king of skill with 13 of a possible 14 seconds in bonus time. Arcadia Outlaw had 12 and a few others had 11.

Tornado Timmy wins the Gung Ho award for shooting the match on crutches. He shot the best match of his career in spite of hobbling from spot to spot.

Thanks as always to the setup and teardown gang!

We can hope for cooler weather in September. I did say hope…

See you on the trail,

Delta Glen

August 2015 Raiders Match

Calling All Raiders!
Our August 23rd match is upon us. There will be a 5th weekend this month so we definitely want to get in some shooting!
As most of you have heard, Roughneck Rod and BRK (Tricia) lost almost everything in the fire earlier this month. Rod’s workshop and the whole house were lost. He is out of the hospital and recovering from the burns. But, Rod is one tough character and will rebound from this disaster.
Santa Fe River Stan initiated a GoFundMe account at http://www.gofundme.com/qmgcrw98 and it has raised over $21,000 from around the country. WOW! What a great group of people in the cowboy shooting world. We would like to do our part to help Rod and Tricia out as well, so the Raiders and the Gainesville Target Range are donating all of the match proceeds to Rod and Tricia.
The match theme this month is also dedicated to Rod’s unique expressions so practice your Boston accent…
We will begin set up at 3pm on Saturday. With Rod and Tornado Timmy out of commission, we could use a few hands if available.
So come on out and shoot with us this weekend, It will be “wicked fast!”

Prayers & Fundraising for Roughneck Rod

Calling all Raiders!

Roughneck Rod and BRK lost most of their earthly possessions on August 6th in a house fire. The fire devastated Rod’s house and workshop. He received 2nd and 3rd degree burns and is currently at Shands. He’s expected to make a full recovery, but has a considerable amount of recovery time in front of him.

July 2015 – Raid Report

Raid Report 7-26-15

For July, it wasn’t too bad.  We had clouds for a good while, a few breezes, and the rain held off.  The range was a bit soggy but it held up.
We had 28 shooters blazing away.  I am proud to say after shooting this match for over a year, I finally shot it clean.  Our theme of 1 target-Stg. 1, 2 target-Stg. 2, 3 target-Stg. 3, etc. went pretty well.  My favorite was the all knockdown 6 Pistol, 6 spinning Rifle and 6 Shotgun targets on Stage 6.  I’m still marveling at Lefty Lucy’s poise and reflexes as she hit those knockoffs as they were swinging by at full speed.
As usual the shooters displayed the cowboy spirit by helping us tear down the targets and tables and get them stowed away for next month.  It seemed like it was the fastest time yet!
The fried chicken, sides, and Gin and Sage Siren’s red velvet/cheesecake brownies really hit the spot inside the air-conditioned clubhouse.
Congratulations to Santa Fe River Stan (also clean) and Gin for top man and lady.

Hope to see everyone next month on August 23rd!

June 2015 – Raid Report

Raid Report 6-28-15

Well, it didn’t rain. But there was a bit of humidity.

The match went smoothly and everything was put away in record time. Thanks for all the help with setup and tear down.

Having lunch and the awards in the AIR-CONDITIONED club house was a real improvement. Thanks to GTR for making the area available. If available, we will make that standard until the fall.

Congratulations to Stan and Beck A. Boo for top honors.

Hope to see you all on July 26th…
